Our Story

Croydon Surveyors — Built on Local Knowledge

We started Croydon Surveyors because we saw a gap in the market for a truly local, independent surveying practice that actually cares about its clients — not just its caseload.

Croydon is a fascinating place to work as a surveyor. The housing stock is incredibly diverse: you've got beautiful Edwardian villas in Purley, post-war semis in Addiscombe, 1960s tower blocks near the town centre and brand-new apartments shooting up around East Croydon station. Each type of property brings its own quirks, risks and opportunities — and understanding them takes years of hands-on experience.

Our firm brings together a small, highly skilled team of RICS, CIOB and RPSA accredited surveyors who between them have inspected hundreds of properties right across the borough. We're not a national chain with a call centre in another city. We're your neighbours, and we take pride in every survey report we produce.

James Hartley

Director & Principal Surveyor

James founded Croydon Surveyors after 18 years working with major surveying firms across London. He specialises in pre-purchase residential building surveys and complex structural defect analysis. Born and raised in South Croydon, James brings genuine local insight to every inspection he carries out.

Claire Morrison

Senior Surveyor

Claire has over 12 years of experience in residential surveying, with a particular focus on HomeBuyer Reports and property valuations. She studied at the University of the West of England and has spent most of her career working in South London. Clients consistently praise her for making complex survey findings feel manageable and clear.

Tom Okafor

Party Wall & Valuation Surveyor

Tom joined Croydon Surveyors after completing his Assessment of Professional Competence with a national surveying firm. He specialises in party wall matters, RICS-compliant valuations and Level 1 Condition Reports. Tom grew up in Thornton Heath and has a passion for helping local families navigate the often-confusing world of property transactions.
